Sumbawa Island is an island located in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The island is bordered by the Alas Strait in the west (separating from Lombok Island), Sape Strait in the east (separating from Komodo Island), Indian Ocean in the south, and Flores Sea in the north. The biggest city is Bima, which is in the eastern part of the island.
The island has an area of 14,386 km2, and is the largest island in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, and one of the two main islands in the province. The highest point is Mount Tambora (2,824 m), which is also an active volcano. The uniqueness of Sumbawa is Bungin island which is included in the Alas sub-district, Sumbawa district. Bungin Island is the most populous island in the world that has a density of 15000 inhabitants / square km. This is because the area of Bungin does not reach 8 hectares and is occupied by around 3000 people.
